With Summernats now kicking off on New Years Day, it was time to head to the Natex Show grounds Canberra to kick off 2009. In the lead up to Street Machine’s Summernats 22 there has been rumours flying all over the place about the show moving, stopping even Chic Henry sellling it, but we didn’t care the time had arrived to go check out the action that is Summernats. We arrived midday on saturday finding out straight away that there had been an incident with a car (MCFAST LX Torana) on the burnout pad during qualifying on friday, to our amazment we found out that the ring gear had exploded and parts of it ended up inside the cabin.

Summernationals was held at WSID over the weekend past, with a huge competitors list, ranging from Super Street, Junior Dragsters, Modified Bike, Competition Bike, Modified, Super Sedan, Super Gas, Competition, Super Stock and Super Charged Outlaws.

I have to say I really do enjoy seeing classes like the super stock running 9 and 10 sec passes, with so much attitude and wheel standing at the 30 foot mark. It is so much easier to relate with those classes. Don’t get me wrong, cars running below 7 sec’s are definitely NOT boring they just seem to do it seemingly easy, I’m sure it does not feel easy inside the car though. Nothing like watching a car get all tail happy mid track or even lifting the front wheels 2 or 3 feet off the deck.
