Took the datto on it’s first drive!

datsun sr20det test drive video

The power was absolutely phenomenal! The delivery was brilliant - I was expecting a bit more lag from the turbo due to it’s size, but it spooled up, datto lurched back, tyres lit up and we were off like the powers of hell. The tyres lit up with ease (spose that’s only a good thing if you like that - and i LOVE it) - just a prod of the accelerator and the little datto was spinning up the wheels.

Progress On The Datto

Discuss this post here

Progress on the datto has come to a bit of a halt over the last two days.

I was initially stumped by an engine that had spark, fuel and just wouldn’t start. I checked everything, checked each plug for spark, checked the injectors were seated properly, re-seated all the injectors but nothing. The engine just didn’t want to start, I even went and re-gapped all the spark plugs, yet this made no difference whatsoever. The craziest thing was I could get the plugs to ignite fuel when sitting atop the engine but they just didn’t seem to want to come to the party once compression was added.

Intercooler Pipes Welded up & Painted!

intercooler piping for sr20det

Another day of work on the datto and another step closer to being able to drive the little bugger again. I’ve been concentrating on getting the motor back up and running with all the goodies - i’m ABSOLUTELY tonguing to take it for a ride with its new found power :)

Anyway, today I remade the intercooler piping to suit the new turbo setup and wirebrushed the existing and painted it all up (finished product above - turbo side intercooler piping).

After finishing off the piping, I needed to add a bolt to house the vacuum hose from the boost controller and another pipe for the Blow Off Valve to connect to.

Silicone Hose Reducers

silicone hose reducer

Well more progress on the datto. After installing the turbo last week, I came unstuck when trying to hook up the MAF sensor as the outlet from the compressor housing is 4″(100mm) and the MAF Sensor is 3″(76mm). So a reducer was needd and 4″ to 3″ silicone reducers aren’t an off the shelf item unfortunately. Not cheap either, costing me $132 buckeroos!

Anyways she’s all hooked up now as you can see below and went off without a hitch.
