Setting Your Internal Wastegate

external wastegate discussion

Well since setting up my datto with the new wastegate and turbo, I thought i’d share a few bits of not so tech ways of fitting your wastegate.

Ok so you’ve got yourself a new external wastegate, mounting brackets etc. How tight do you do up the wastegate? Is it just a matter of guesstimation?

It is a bit of a guess, but it is worth taking a little extra time and care here as the last thing you want is your wastegate set too loose and therefore never reach max boost psi! If the wastegate isn’t done up tight enough then you’ll loose boost pressure when the gate opens up when you didn’t want it hence never reach your max boost.

I got the Turbo to fit!

I posted the other day about troubles I was having installing a turbo and thought i’d update on how I went about getting the sucker to fit!

As you can see from the image above, the turbot now sits quite nicely and is NOT touching the engine mount. All I did was remove the engine mount, leaving the turbo in - simply take the weight of the engine with a jack and naturally do NOT place the jack under the sump!

New Turbo For the datto problems…

Discuss this post here

I was fitting my new turbo today and ran across a couple of problems that I thought i’d share and hopefully will help out others from making the same mistakes as me.

Anyways if you’re planning on fitting a larger turbo on your motor, there are a couple of things that you should do - to save having to do more work in the long run.

As you can see in the above image, my compressor housing is touching the engine mount and this is stopping from being able to tighten up the exhaust manifold bolts.

Upgrade Garret T series to GT series

Discuss this Post HERE - Any questions you have fire away

I was working on my datto today and swapping over turbos and thought i’d go through the mods I had to undertake to go from the original T25g to a GT25 turbo. They aren’t really a direct bolton, but they’re pretty close .

Upgrade Garret T series to GT series

If you are currently running a T series Garrett turbo (ie T25g which is the factory turbo on the likes of ca18det’s and sr20det’s), then you’re going to need to make a few modifications to help with the changeover.
