We finally got the drift pig onto the track to see if it could be used as a drift machine. Straight away we had problems, the fuel breather pipe started spewing out petrol once the Torana got on the track. This was an easy fix, turns out the force from cornering caused the fuel to get forced out of the breather pipe. A quick change of location (ie alot higher than the fuel cell) and she was sent back out on the track.
I was looking on as Simpson put the torana through its paces and it looked like he was having a hell of alot of fun out there. He even managed to spin out whilst doing well over 100clicks :). But he had to come in due to the poor torana getting a little hot. We left it to cool down for about 30mins and then I jumped in ready to have some fun.
I was lined up waiting to get let on the track and just as the officials started waving us on, the bastard wouldn’t start. Couldn’t even turn it over, as if something was stopping it from turning over. We had a look and managed to jump start her and that’s when we noticed water spewing out of both exhausts. First thoughts were ‘blow head gasket(s)’. Open up the radiator and sure enough, it was a cappuccino :(. So all that money and time spent for nothing, I didn’t even get to set a tyre on the track.
I honestly can’t convey how disappointed I am over the whole thing. BUT it just means that we’ve learnt that going cheap is a bad idea and now i’m in the process of trying to figure out for starters what would be best to use for a drifter and how to get the money together to get my hands on one
