The easiest way for this to happen is for the rings around the tops of the pistons to be cracked (ie., broken) and gasoline will leak past them into the oil pan. If that's the cause, it's time to re-mortgage the house. It only takes one ring on one piston, too. Have a compression test done on the cylinders to see if this is it. With the help of a friend and a compression tester (a pressure gauge basically) that'll cost you about $50, you can do this test your self.
