Gazza Nats 2006
![]() 4:30 am rocks around and my first thoughts are 'did I even close my eyes yet'.... 6 hours later and I find myself queing up in Virginia Adelaide for Gazzanats at Adelaide International Raceway. There's nothing like the anticipation of entering the grounds of an event like this. A little excitement at the though of seeing blown 8's chewing up tyres and then you right on que, a nasty fire breathing 8 starts up and is revved to high hell! A chill is sent through your spine, it's at that second you know that nothing on this earth could stop you from entering those gates. ![]() This was my first trip to Adelaide and i'd like to ask you South Australian's a little something. What's the deal with all the big american utes/pickups? They are rarely spotted around these parts but I saw 10 or 20 in the first 30minutes I was in Adelaide. They're definitely not for farm use as all were dropped on their guts with custom graphics to boot. SHOW CARS ![]() Show Car Photos There was a good number of different car clubs in attendance at Gazzanats and each had their fair share of highly modified show N shine cars. Then there were the burnout masters showcased in the main tent and I to say the quality of all these cars has increased phenomenally. All of the cars are far more than an engine wrapped in any old body laying about. There is some serious detail that has gone into creating these burnout beasties. ![]() ![]() Show Car Photos DRIFTING ![]() Drifting Photos There was some awesome drifting demonstrations throughout the day and the crowd absolutely loved it. Whilst being a V8 top heavy kind of crowd, seeing these imported cars getting around at high speed with smoke billowing off of the tyres was cause for a BIG thumbs up from the crowd. ![]() Drifting Photos BURNOUTS Burnout Photos We'll start off with the king, after all it was his event! But i'll have to have a gripe here, taking photos of Gary Myers doing a burnout is great but he generates too much smoke! Take the photo below for example. Gary had just come out of the pits, instant plumes of smoke and he disappears only to reappear behind a haze of smoke. Whilst being AWESOME to watch, it is rather irritating to photograph. ![]() It seems like a simple formula. Get a car, whack an almighy V8 in it and do your best to blow the tyres. Sure you can do that and have a whole lot of fun, but the burnout pad is getting pretty damn serious these days. I remember when seeing a blown car on the pad was the ducks nuts and there were maybe 2 or 3 blown cars doing burnouts. Then a few years later a good percentage of the burnout entrants turnout to be blown 8's and now there seems to be another twist on the burnout pad. The latest trend seems to be taking show quality cars (check camaro up top) with graphics and many hours of love spent building up these monsters. Check out these two panel vans - both have sexy paint and are airbrushed. ![]() ![]() As you can see, the thought of destroying the graphics or paint doesn't stop the smoke pouring off the tyres for some serious crowd pleasing burnout action! ![]() ![]() Burnout Photos Thanks to Gary & Deb for organising a brilliant event, I shall surely be there again next year. Next burnout event is Revfest at Wagga Wagga
