![]() The engine and trans sitting in the merc. It took a bit of stuffing around, but the mounts are all made. They ended up being relatively simple mounts too. ![]() 1 X 200mm length of 50mm square bar 2 X 270mm length of 8mm thick flat plate 1 X 200mm length of 4mm thick flat plate Pair of HQ holden engine mounts Turbo 350 transmission mount (commondore) Original Mercedes transmission mount Original Mercedes engine mounts The steel cost us a total of $17 and the mounts another $74. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyways some 8mm thick flat plate was used to bring the mount back to the original location. ![]() Next step is to fit our newly acquired Toyota camry power steering rack, modify a sump and pickup, then move onto the headers. We also need to tidy up the engine mounts, trim a bit of fat off them and they’re ready to be painted up. Not really looking forward to the headers, does anyone know if making headers similar to that on a boat would cause any big issues?

There are a couple of types of engine pipes for boats. One is water cooled and the other is just like standard pipe but instead of going down they rise up and over the rear of the boat, (transom over???). Which one do you mean.

Boat manifold as in something like this
![]() This would be by far the easiest way for us to build the exhaust manifold. Would it thave any detrimental effect on the sound? Not too fussed about power as this is more a cruiser than anything. Still looking for a sump for the moment.

These manifolds have water running thru them to cool them so as there is a reduced risk of fire ect. The manifold you may be thinking of is called a log manifold. Doesnt do much for scavaging affect from the enginge but they still do the job of removing the exhaust gass to the rear. This is the style of manifold im using, due to the small amount of room I have. Yeah I too recon a set of rams horn manifolds or a set of block hugger pipes might work. Custom manifolds will be expensive.

i reckon try a set of block huggers, but after checking out the photos,
your mounts look to be in the way, how about having the main primaries going up, then joining at the top then travelling down the back of the firewall, or even channel the firewall to have them sit into it. |

Yeah would prefer to go for a log style, less mods the better. Channeling the firewall would be far too much work to add in some headers on a car that is really going to be for cruising.
