Its time for the Mercules update number 12, this one will be a little smaller than normal. We have been so flat out with everything else that Mercules has been a little lonely lately. We are still waiting on a lot of the trim to come back from the trimmer. Unfortuately we may have made a bad decission with this particular trimmer he does great work but slow we have been waiting for a few months now. We have been able to start assembling the rest of the shell, with all the doors neatly fitted back to where they belong. The shell is actually starting to take shape, it had been so long since the door’s and panels have been on the car both AJ and myself had kind of forgotten what she looked like. …..One thing that stood out to both of us is how long the boot lid looked when bolted back on……One thing that we where both very happy about thanks to a forum member (gwunta) was the opportunity to purchase a better Merc steering wheel. The old wheel was that horrible 1970’s spongie foam crap. The new wheel is a nice hard plastic style with the cool chrome bar for the horn. ![]() Almost all of the fabrication work has been finished now apart from sorting out one more extractor for the drivers side. Obviously we still have a lot of work in front of us but the old girl is starting to come back together, a little slower than we had hoped but all in all we are still making progress. Both Aj and myself are both really looking forward to getting the trim back so we can admire the nice new bright white paint siting next to the glossy black trim

Looking good guys, has the diff received the once over? I've spoken to a number of guys and they tell me that the Jag diff is definitely a goer with some fabrication. There is a guy over here who has done the conversion but I have yet to lay eyes on it.
Steering wheel looks good - glad you're happy with it! I noticed you ripped the engine back out again. Was that just to recon the front end or was there another reason? |

Well the project had kinda taken a hard right hand turn.....I found a 4.5L V8 108 Mercedes with electric windows, central locking, electric sunroof and some other goodies. I also spoke to a guy over here who has 2 (yep count em 2!!) 109 Mercedes, of which only 1900 were made world wide. So what I hear you say... Well, these model came out with factory air bag suspension which bolt straight onto the 108 suspension and the guy has told me I can have the air bag suspension for free. So Im getting that on Saturday arvo which will then limit me to using a Merc diff. That problem is also solved as he has a 6.3L Merc diff that he is willing to part company with so that is next onthe shopping list.
Aside from all that, the rediculous amount of rust I have found in the car has almost been repaired. The front end is in primer now, engine bay all smoothed out. The front end suspension and steering is back together, ready to be fitted to the car and the steering wheel has been modified to take the new wheel. All that remains from the body side of things is the small rust holes in the floor pan. I will post pics shortly..... Yeah yeah I know, so much for having the car ready for Motorvation. |
