This is our very first datsun and non V8 feature car and just because it has half the plugs doesn’t mean it won’t tear your head off and toss it down the street. Mashing the quarter in 11.01 seconds at 122mph and pumping out 325 rwhp on the rollers, Mick’s datto is definitely no slouch and should be treated with the respect that it will simply take from you. From the outside, it looks pretty much like your run of the mill Datsun 120Y, clean white paint job, venetians in the rear window giving it that nice sleeper look. The turbo stickers and convos tip you off that this isn’t any ordinary 120Y but it doesn’t convey exactly what it’s capable of! Inside, there are comfy electric supra seats up front and the rear has been retrimmed to match, however the only way you’re going to get someone in the back is if they are in a baby seat. The dash is a customised 120Y dash with the 180sx / silvia instrument cluster neatly moulded in there along with the all important boost, water temp, oil temp and oil pressure gauges. Although there is a bottle in the boot, the Nitrous setup is only used to build up boost off the line at the drags. With the auto box and trans brake, Mick builds upto 20psi before letting the little datto rip down the quarter. Mick has owned the 120Y since 2007, it was bought with a stock manual CA18DET that ran a respectable 12.5 quarter. Since then it has had two new engines in it, a mildly worked CA18DET that ran a 11.94 with a shot of gas before hand grenading. The latest combo is not so mild, with forged pistons, ARP main studs, Tomei Procams, heavily ported head, Garrett GT3076R turbo, Sard 660cc injectors to name but a few of the mods. The results of the new internals equate to a very very very quick little datto! Being an auto there is a little lag off the line, but when that light switch is flicked all hell breaks loose, the rears light up, you’re pinned to the seat and all you can hear is the screamer pipe doing its thing! The torque of an 8 is alot of fun, but the feeling of a turbo building building building power them WHAM smacking your head in as it delivers a big serve of horsepower is something to experience too!1.8 packs a big punch and is actually driven, burnouts, powerskids, drag racing on the street, you name it - Mick isn’t afraid to get stuck into the loud pedal either. FLI20Y - a plate that could be mistaken as a run of the mill plate to the unobservant…. Absolutely awesome little car Mick, big congrats on the numbers it pulls and times it lays down at the track! What’s next? “Spool the diff, a new set of rims and repair / re-paint the car and crack a 10 on the quarter” Quick Specs Mick Ramsay 1976 Datsun 120Y Colour : White ENGINE Make : Nissan CA18DETInduction: Garret GT3076R Turbo Heads : Heavily Ported Head Ignition : Microtech LT10s ECU Exhaust : 3″ all the way Power : ~325rwhp Performance : 11.01 @ 122mph TRANSMISSION Gearbox : Jatco 3 speed with switched overdrive with trans brake.Diff :R31 Skyline LSD SUSPENSION & BRAKES Shocks & Springs : stanza struts, standard shocks & leafs.Brakes : S12 Gazelle up front with R31 skyline discs on the rear. What a great little sleeper - impressed the first time I saw it and even more so after this article. Must frighten a few of the WRX / EVO boys
Good story AJ.....love the members cars that are a bit different and are driven hard.

Awesome car mate. There's nothing like winding the boost up, and unleashing hell ay?
Well done.
