good **** mate - look forward to seeing you in action!

Quick question but

A mate of mine and i are looking to try our hand at some drifting in this beast .

What tips / advice can you give for first timers? Obviously we're both ****ting ourselves worried about how badly we'll be in the driving stakes. How did you og on your first time out? How longhave you been drifting? What's it like out on the track? etc

serious man - any tips would be much appreciated here.

been these kinda things for 6 years already. drifting starting in 2003. i was circuit trained before 2003 so it made drifting way easier.

first-timers? take your time. feel the rhythm of the corners, which speed, which gear. breaking traction is the easy part. keeping the traction gone needs good understanding of suspension, your car's throttle response and obviously where your front wheels are pointing. once you have that in mind all the time, you'll be fine. probably will stuff up because of throttle+steering issues but nothing too major.

Turn, handbrake on, countersteer, handbrake off, keep the rpms up around 5krpm. that's basically drifting rpm.

be careful not to push speeds because going sideways at 80 and going straight at 80 are different things. hehehehe

So using handbrake for starters is the best idea?

My thoughts were (and they're probably wrong) to go into a corner and power out into fishy's for starters. Get to know the handling characteristics of the car as you mentioned and then from there start trying to break traction earlier and earlier in a corner. by clutch kicking etcc?? Or should we just do the handbrake method you mentioned?

handbrake will do for starters. try not to do power over till you've gotten the hang of getting the car back in control for the simple reason.... power over too early or too late will result in Understeer(might be towards the wall) or Oversteer(into the way of another car or reverse into a wall).

clutch kicking imho isn't a good thing but it really is something you can use to induce or artificially lengthen a drift. clutch/gearbox aren't exactly free. if it was free & i was in a competition, i would be doing it too because looking bad is worst than blowing a clutch/gearbox.

handbrake is definitely one to start with. basic seriously.

steering control in the sense that you know where the wheels are pointing(X-ray vision helps). alot of ppl focus on the steering wheel to turn this and that. that's the wrong way about it i feel. knowing exactly where the front wheels are pointing is the main focus. know where it is and where you want it to go and your hands will do the moving and u normally will know how much to correct/adjust.

u goin for August 19th?? i need to warm myself up again....... hheheheh can't wait.!!!!

ok handbrake it is BUT another question :)

Like i'm sure you and most other hooligans - in the wet i'm prone to hanging the back out all over the shop. I imagine drifting will not be too dissimilar to doing this but at much higher speeds and it will be dry. This is the same principle re lining up the wheels with where you're going. I'm not so worried about that part, more worried about getting sideways at 80k's. I think i'll end up spinning in circles...

Yes going for August 19th - if all goes to plan ie car is ready and it's looking like it will be fine :) Warma yourself up? How do you do that ? :P

you won't really notice the sideways at 80ks part..... lol its just like taking a raceline thru the corner. only different thing is traction loss at the back. that's it. nothing much to worry about my friend.

most times i don't hold the wheel when it comes to kansai but during corners that need adj, you do need to adj the wheel pretty quick.

sounds dumb but i run simulations. been on the simulation since 2001. stopped intermittently. no one to train with, my buddy's busy

it's a computer simulation. somewhat like the Ferrari 355 Challenge which i feel is equally good to mine just that my simulation models traction loss more realistically. i did use to drift the F355 hehehe easy
