Default Toyo Drift Australia Series

All,

Anyone here keeping an eye on the Toyo Drift Australia Series?

After four of five rounds in 2006, Leighton Fine (Toyota Sprinter) leads the series by 121 points over Robbie Bolger (Holden Monaro), with Beau Yates (Sprinter) a further 6 behind. All three of the guys have won a round this year, and there's 500 points on offer in the final, so it's far from done and dusted.

Anyone got a tip as to who'll walk away from the final round at Oran Park on September 23-24 as the Champ?

BTW, if you haven't seen any of the DA rounds, the most recent round from Symmons Plains will be on Speedweek (SBS) this Sunday at 12 noon.

hey Mitchell - welcome to the forums.

excuse my ignorance mate, but is Leighton Fine the driver of the PEER sprinter?? Also any idea of the setup engine wise of the Monaro? is it N/A or blown??

No idea who will walk about, but can't wait for the next battle and Oran Park is brilliant for taking photos - which brings me to my next qu - any idea if I can get a media pass there?

Beau Yates is the team mate of Darren Appleton in Team PEER.

Thanks AJ 510.

As karbonphyber says, Beau is in the Team PEER Sprinter, Leighton drives the black and red Sprinter with backing from Nankang Tyres, Martini Racing and others.

The Monaro is N/A. It's an ex- V8 Supercar engine bored out to 7 Litres. Spoke to Robbie yesterday, he said they're getting 936hp at the wheels. Robbie's other entry is a Holden Ute, with a Supercharged V8 making over 1300hp at the flywheel. To quote Robbie, they 'built a monster instead of a drift car'.

ahh ok - I got confused with the battle Leighton had with Bolger at Eastern Creek (that was brilliant to watch them having to keep on battling it out).

They sure did build a monster! 1300hp is insane, but at the same time, the N/A Monaro would be pretty close to that at the fly wheel if it's pumping out 936 at the wheels. I can't believe how much power they're generating.

Does the Toyo series venture on down to adelaide and perth?

We've been to Adelaide a couple of times now, and Mallala hosted the first round of the 2006 season. Adelaide is the home of drifting in Australia and it has a strong level of support from drivers, teams, fans, etc.

We haven't been to Perth yet. I'm not sure what the 2007 calendar will look like, so we'll see how it pans out. Maybe the West Aussies will finally get a taste of DA. I understand there's a pretty good drifting scene, so it would go off if we went to Barbagello (for instance).

Yes, i've been told that Adelaide is the breeding ground for drifting in Australia, i'll be venturing on down there to have a looksee sometime soon. Do you have any idea who organises practice days down there (much the same as initial drift does in NSW?)??

So atm the east coast and SA are all covered by DA ?

I got a question, how much has the spectator aspect grown since DA began? Personally, i loved drifting at first sight (i'm new to this as mentioned before) as it's the best spectator motorsport i've ever attended. I'm surprised that the crowds aren't alot larger to tell you the truth. I imagine drifting will be very big in the coming years??

yes, coming soon. it's all because of the V8 mentality, bigger is better = faster. no way man. those are bloody heavy ships on rubber.

hehe met a guy who went to the DA @ EC. he commented that V8s would've been fun there. lol WOULD'VE was what i had in my mind. hhhaha sure they can catch up but i bet they'll crash during the first turn considering their suspension set ups. i hope they're changed it, hopeless cars.

wow - that's a seriously ignorant post there mate. By your reasoning, if a car has a V8 then it's automatically a boat that can't handle... hmmm perhaps you need to rethink that? The top car in the drift series is a V8.

I htink the reason people mention that a v8 would be nice to see is the sound a V8 makes. I love turbos etc (own one as you know) but there is nothing like the sound of a healthy V8 under full noise.

And re the bigger = faster. What about with turbos, the first thing most guys do when they can is go for a bigger turbo, bigger injectors - bigger does = faster to a certain extent, you are just seeing red when it comes to v8s...ferraris are v8 powered ;) wonder why they don't go for a turbo'd 4? :P

that's a V8 built for drift. you missed out the reason within my statement.

it's abit vague but i'm not biased against V8s and their abilities. i feel that V8 Supercars is too protective of themselves that they aren't improving.
