Ok i don't really want a full on detailed explanation just a brief one.
The reason i ask is the New 2009 Hurst Hemi Challenger was released ![]() and it has a Dodge badge on the back and a Hemi one on the engine (maybe i just answered my own question Hemi Engine Dodge Car ? )

Quick explanation Paul,
Dodge is the car brand - like Holden. Hemi describes the shape of the combustion chamber that was created by Chrysler for there big horsepower motors. The Hemi name stuck for any engine with this design. Adam's 300C runs a hemi as well. Easy way to identify a hemi is that it has the spark plug leads coming out of the centre of the rocker cover. Happy to provide more if you want.

Chrysler/Dodge have a history of calling engines a HEMI when they are not.
392/426 Are the Most Famour Hemi's Out there. the Aussie 245/265 Are Semi-Hemispherical Chambers, The New Hemi (as Found int he New Challengers, 300C's.etc) is well....a Penta Roof Chamber, so technically not a REAL Hemi. Hemi's is just a Well Known Name for the engine as it is Snonymous with Racing History. You mention hemi to anyone, Most people tell you they respect the Big Iron Engines from the Yanks. MOST people...there are a few out there that disagree (another story). When THey Released the 426 Hemi, they had TWO Models, 426 Street Hemi and 426 RACE Hemi, As per Nascar Law. They Sold 500 Race Hemi Cars, Funnily enough 90% of them Ended up Racing....Funny that? There are Wedge Engines (MAX Wedge), Magnums and the lot, as per your Question. the 5.7 is the 'Entry Level' Hemi and the 6.1 is their 'hipo' engine. But Arrington Engines (Nascar Engine Builder) Offers 426 Cu.In Stroker Kits for them :) Last edited by FAT-245; 11-12-2008 at 10:33 AM. |
