thanks mate
alllrrrriiiight, what a great Valnetines Day. had my hands all over my girl all afternoon ![]() didn't get a chance to pull the engine out during the week, been too busy with work. thankfully, my brother Frigga, being the big romantic that he is had no plans with the missus and came out and we pulled the engine out. took a little longer than we planned but the job got done. most trouble we had was taking the harmonic balancer off. surprisngly the block is alot lighter than i imagined, Groovy was telling me it was light but didn't realise how much till i picked it up today, had no troubles lifting it 1 handed. factory weight says around 90lbs but it felt lighter. ![]() thought i might give those that are interested a little more info about these engines, as they really aren't a bad little setup. the block will be 2/3 grout filled which will make it strong enough to handle around 2000hp, these engines would have to be one of the strongest factory engines on the market. ok, they need they need to be modified a little bit to handle over 14-1500hp. everybody talks about the 2JZ's and how strong they are but because this engine was never released in Australia not too many people know about these, though hp per cube the 2J is a little better. it's a funny story how i came by it, i thought i would have to go to the US to find one, had a look on Dragster.com.au a guy was selling one about 8 months earlier, i rang him up surprisingly he still had it, it was the exact one i wanted and believe it or not the guy lived in the exact same suburb as i do ![]() ![]() the heads are from the 1996-98 Mustang Cobra's, as you can see in the picture they are a dual port head, i had a set race ported they flow intake 310cfm@.500 lift with 82% efficiency and exhaust 240cfm@94% efficiency (don't ask me what the hell that means, its a yank thing ) you won't find many people using these heads in the US, everyone believes the 99+ heads are the way to go, yet the fastest modular engine in the world running 6.30@225 weighing 2650lbs uses them and alot of the mod engine guru's say if your going over 1300hp these are the ones to use. the heads are brilliant and cheap to do, all you have to do is change the valve springs which only costs around $400 for a set of 32 and your set for 10,000rpm (2300+hp) i'm still running the factory stainless valves, rockers, lifters. i have changed to titanium retainers but it's not required. in the US they have mustangs on the street making 1000+hp with stock factory heads. some may remember Bob with the GT40 in Zoom a little while ago, has a similar engine in his, he has the new heads though. has factory cams, unopened ports and it makes 700rwhp@20psi.![]() have had purchased a few little odds and bods to strengthen and improve the engine. at the bottom left i got a 1/2'' billet aluminium rear main seal cover, this strengthens and stabilises the block more. top left are the cam spacers, they are T6-6061 red anodised aluminium. the spacers are believed to reduce rotating weight/parasitic drag by 80% which means the engine will rev a bit freer hopefully producing a little more HP. top middle are the side bolts these are custom made by ARP, as you can see by the picture they are alot thicker than the factory ones which will be a great benefit at 1700hp+ in the middle are the Comp Cams adjustable cam gears, they are a billet alloy and stainless this should allow me to get the cam degree and timing spot on. finally on the right is the billet steel trigger wheel, which alot of people forget to replace and is the cause of alot of engine failures. i also had an oil drainback system and crankshaft scraper made to try and control where the oil goes ![]() last but not least is the crank, this is the factory forged steel 8-bolt crank from the Mustang Cobra, they are extremely tuff and have been able to handle 2000+hp. i have had the crank cryo-treated and re-shot peened. we are looking at a few little tricks to improving the crank like making little scoops to assist in oil pickup etc ![]()

i will start off slowly as we are just testing the car out and also testing myself as a driver, will take her out there on probably 1000hp to start with then step it up when im more comfortable, i hope after 20 or so passes we can screw the boost up so we make around 16-1700, i will try and push it a little higher after that just to 18-1900, anything over that i might start breaking stuff. im getting a better 4.6L longblock built later in the year which we should be getting close to 2300hp out of.

alright time for an update, not too much new, slow goings at the moment. just got back from Competition Coatings had all the turbo exhaust housings, cores and intake pipe all done. they did a fantastic job, looks soooo pretty i almost wanted to make it a show car and not a drag car
engine is still to be finished just waiting on a couple parts, after that comes in, get the electrician and then off to the engine dyno we go, find out what this baby can do and then we can work out diff gears etc. few pics of the great work Comp Coatings did ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

turbo's have been put together.
![]() ![]() on another note, went out yesterday to WSID to start my practice for the Daytona. i was leaving the AC, radio, glove box, centre console open so i turn them off and close them etc when i get to the line, i did that so i had things to do in the car because in the Daytona it won't be as easy as putting the pedal down and going. on my 3rd ever pass down a drag strip i got a .000 reaction time, was pretty happy with myself for doing it and being the first of the day meaning i won the reaction money, then WSID doesn't call me out at the end for the money, though after i showed them my timeslip they fixed it up. i stayed fairly consistent all day going from .046 to .204 reactions all day.
