went in to Groovy's today drop some gear off, egt's to weld the mounts in. Decided on a paint colour of Jet Black with a Harlequin clear, its not as radical as the harlequin on its own, this way the harlequin is only very subtle as on a small amount is being used so its not too full on everything else will be black as well from the fittings, wastegates, blow off valves etc etc. keeping with the black theme went black Simpson harness and 2 black Simpson chutes, a lightweight black B&M Stealth Pro Bandit shifter (probably one of the nicest looking shifters i have seen or maybe i just have terrible taste, it's black anodized aluminium and carbon fiber).. Groovy made new mega-duty 4 link bars, he will also make a new heavy duty wishbone track locator, the sliding bar is crazy thick n strong, Groovy is very confident he will have the thing setup to run nice and str8 for me. still got a fair bit of work to do, it's taking longer than everyone thought, he said he had few mates that came over that couldn't believe how much extra has gone into it. but at least we are doing it right which at 200mph+ you wanna make sure you do, im not in a rush and i like being alive, took the dig camera in today and took a few better pics
Groovy's best weld so far ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

not a heap of work done this week Groovy is still recovering from Jambo, the ass end is almost done, finished putting on the anti-roll, support on the housing, new 4-link, wheelie bar joints and wishbone track locator have also been put on, plus 4 extra bars on the bracing to make it even stronger. next week will make a new support for the parachutes etc and finish up what's left on the back.

car is off the jig, Groovy has straightened the back end as much as he can and got it almost perfect, its about 1-2mm off centre which should be fine. counted all the extra bars that have been put in there was 55 all up, the car is now all triangulated, rigid and as strong as can get. made a different setup for the parachutes, the one we had was ok for 1 chute 160mph or so but over that it would have stretched like crazy, it was terrible to say the least, the new one is mega strong, u can see all the extra bars to support it everything that isnt painted has been added. next week put the body back on and take it from there, took a couple more pics

i was a bit bored so i thought i would write about the engine. i considered alot of engines from rotaries, 2JZ, 1UZ but i wanted something different, that no1 really has out here and for my goals and most importantly budget i decided on the 4.6L V8 32-valve modular Ford engine, and i grew up in a Ford household so was a lil persuader also, it can be found in the 96-98 Mustang Cobra's, the new motors are now a 5.4L 3-valve, pretty much the same engines you find in the XR8's etc, its a rare engine to find these in Australia but in the US there are 1000's of street Mustangs making close to 1000hp with these engines from turboing to supercharging, though superchargers are the most common. you won't find alot of serious drag racers with this though, you would prob be able to count them on 1 hand, the quickest to date is 6.31@230 which is pretty damn quick, its a relatively heavy car also just under 2700lbs and i have been lucky to pick his brain a bit for my combo. the motor was cheap and luckily i found in Australia for $2600 and only had around 20,000 miles on it, this particular engine sells for double that in the US, the block is the main reason, its hard to come by now. its an all aluminium engine capable of 2000+hp, i am still running the factory block, heads, valves, rockers, internal oil pump. had some custom valve springs, rods and pistons made, so u can understand why $ wise it was a good choice. the heads are a weird design they have 2 ports instead of the one which makes them the head of choice for big power, the heads flow a respectable 310cfm @ .500. i am still running a wet sump we have had a few goodies made to control the windage, oil etc. i am running a Motec M800 with CDI-8 to add a little extra spark to the marine coils. 2 x Garrett GT42R's 74mm blades, i am not going to crazy with this engine, i plan on making a more bulletproof 4.6L next year if im happy with this, its not a huge cube, i only wanted relatively small as i wanted to throw this in possibly a Capri after im finished racing it and i only need to de-stroke it from 4.6 to 4.5 to do it. its 281ci but im hoping to get into the high 6's with this particular combo, possibly mid-6's with the upgraded 4.6L. i am running a ****load of sensors almost on everything plus dual NTK Uego Lambda, 8 EGT's, the car will be tuned by Shane T, one of the best tuners in the US if not the world, he used to do MrMad also back in the day and also tunes the fastest 4.6L in the world, the owner was kind enough to lend me his tune as we are running alot of similar things like manifolds, injectors etc, its roughly a 90% tune so just a little tweaking after that for my specific motor, so it will cut down tuning time alot. took a couple pics of the goodies going in it
custom made pistons by Diamond, thicker and better material than factory, heat thermal coated ![]() ![]() ![]() wrist pin, tool steel .220'' factory crap doesn't compare ![]() rods much thicker and better quality ![]() factory crank but still good to 2000+hp ![]() ignition coil ![]() |

thanx mate, just tossing up between who to get to screw it all together, i was thinkin either Dave from Gas Motorsports, Dave Handley, Norm from Northmead Auto Centre (he doin the gearbox also) from what i know of those 3 all are more than qualified to do it and Grooveryders been telling me bout a mate of his Steve Toth but not too familiar with him,, its a matter of trying to find the right one with the time to get it done, i was going to have it all screwed together in the US but will get that done on the next engine.
