Default Home Brewing

Gday all.
Who here home brews?- i am starting up my own brew and kegging it, and am looking for some suggestions from those in the know. I have heard tank water is better than tap water, any other suggestions?

Just don't try to rush it. The longer you leave the fermentation (but not too long), the better quality product. What size keg, large one, or fridge size?

19L kegs are being used. they say fementation is between 4-6 days, then leave 1 week in the keg, before gassing and drinking.

My latest purchase has been a Filter, so no more muddy homebrew, heres some more pics of the filter and "Kegerator". She holds 2 homebrew kegs (or one 50L commercial keg). with built in tap and drip tray.

mate i've been kegging for quite some time now and i dont use a filter at all and my beer is always clear. not the first glass or the last has ever had and cloudiness..
all i do is make up the fermenter to about 20L and leave it brewing for normally 2 weeks( i never pour to keg after only afew days like you've said) when i do pour to the keg i just turn the fermenter tap on half way so it doesnt pick up any crap from bottom of fermenter. than a smaal hit of gas to purge the air out of keg then she goes in the fridge..
i gas at 36 psi for 36 hours, and my biggest problem is getting rid of my mates
best tip i could give anyone is dont pitch your yeast to early, when i started i would make my brew and put the yeast in at the same time, now i leave it over night before the yeast goes in and my beer is so much better now.. the trick is to pitch the yeast at the coolest temp that it will brew at( if that makes sense) so if your brew will get as cool as say 18deg. then you put yeast in at 18deg. because the yeast will work well at 18 plus any temp higher but it will work very slow if it gets to say 16deg.
i leave my fermenter in the laundry sink with it full of water. i do this cause it makes it a larger volume of water so it takes longer for the temperature to be affected in the fermenter plus i can put bottles of ice in it to keep it cool if needed..
sorry to rave on abit mate but its all about making the best beer you can isnt it.
also i seen your gas bottle did you buy that or hire it?
i use a co2 fire extinguisher, i get them for 50 bucks and refills are 20
cheers
adam

yeah good tips there mate thanks.
My Co2 bottle i own and as you said refills are 20 bucks. I havent had any major dramas, the filter is only used cause i keg and drink with in 2 weeks. Now that i have a few kegs, i can leave them longer- but as you said- once the friends get into it....

at the moment i have 3 filled kegs put away for xmas/n.years, so the last of those should taste the best so far.

Its funny how watery and tasteless comercial beer is after home brewing. What brew do you use??- i have been using pale ales and canadian blonde brews from my local supplier. anyways good to hear from another brewer!

i really just pump out canadian blonde or sometimes a mexican corona type beer( cant think of the name of it) but thats cause i can get them from super market and dont need to drive half hour to go to a home brew shop. if i go to a home brew shop i'll get a "cold" a "xxxx" and one of the best i've done is "black rock" brand think its a dry lager maybe. cant remember of top of my head.
your right my beer sh-its on beer from the pub..
i run 2 kegs in my fridge with a double font and always have 1 tap of beer and 1 tap is bourbon and cola, once you get bourbon in your kegs but you'll never get rid of your mates.
i have 6 kegs and like you fill them than leave them when i can, the older they r the better they get

also i am drinking my beer about 2 weeks after making it but i leave it in the fermenter for 2 to 3 days after its ready then straight in keg purge out oxgen,in fridge for an hour to chill than straight on gas and drinking 36 hours after and i've never had 1 cloudy beer. but if filtering yours works for you then keep doing what works
