Hi, I run a 202 turbo in a VK commodore and have been playing with it for quite a while now. I dont think you will need any kind of decomp plate or definitly dont put 202 pistons on a 186 crank, both will drop your compression but it'll never make much more than 150rwhp due to the squish area being too large. Fuel away from the plug and exhaust valve is cooled by the flat sqish area of the chamber and piston top also cooling the fuel in the empty space between the two. I note you want to use gas and my trial and error has all been with 98ron pump petrol, how ever I think it will still be relevant.
I have modified my combustion chambers to 62cc and have 7.5cc dish tops. I use a 0.040thou copper head gasket. I have a pic gallery online you can look at Turbo Head If you can get a 12 port turbo head from yella terra you will be well ahead, these have around 70cc chambers and flow a heap better than the holden heads. They are a huge improvement. |

Yes Ive dynoed it, but it was a waste of time. I had the misfortune of loosing my fuel pressure on the way there. It still ran but leaned off as the revs rose got 151.7rwkw @ just over 4000rpm after that it popped back through the turbo. Basicly it would spool up boost and run out of fuel. Once home I changed my fuel pump and it come good. They gave it 2 runs on the dyno I tried adjusting the btm between tests. but it made no diff was just too lean to get it to rev
YouTube - vk dyno Im on my second motor since that vid was made The head is a bit more developed now, runs 1.6 VN V8EFI exhaust valves modified to suit has a clyde cams 280/282 112 cam and a new turbo witch is a new headache for me to sort out now. My main air supply is coming straight from the back of the radiator and engine fan so it tends to ping when it comes on boost Im running BDD needles and have BAX for spares. the BDD are a much richer needle set I have been making a blog of my build on another site but as a newby here Im not sure off the site policy on links to other blogg sites and dont want to draw the link police to me lol but a google search my find it.. I find a 202 turbo is a great long term project but be aware getting the turbo in the car is easy enough but tuning it for 300+ rwhp is were the work really lies Last edited by hiy_po; 29-09-2009 at 09:07 PM. |

to the person who owns the turbo 3.3 vk commadore . i have a lot more than 150 hp with 202 dished piston in a 186 block. it seems to me that you have not tried this combonation before. i do have to use high octane fuel when i am racing. i do use water injection. no computer. this has been a proven combonation for the past 20 to 30 years.

Got a dyno sheet you can paste up or anything to look at?
I used a HP block, 173 blue crank, and flat top 202 hyper pistons. it worked at low boost ok but was a slug. simply changing the head and cam over into a std 202 block allowed more advance to be used (even though the compression was higher) and the available power increase was huge. I sugest you follow your own advice and try using an engine that has the absolute min distance between head and piston at TDC. Once you have an efective combustion chamber happening then youll understand what a crap setup you had before. Also understand that a properly functioning chamber will not detonate as easily allowing more boost/compression to run without probs. And after 30 years or so of R@D its been worked out before you just need to try it for yourself.. |
