Easternats 2007
So you’ve got a nice long weekend for easter and you’re in Melbourne.
What are you going to do? Sit around watch a bit of the box, bbq with friends eat a few kilos of chocolate OR spend 3 days choking on hot cars belching out methanol fumes mixed with a severe dose of tyre smoke and singing like only a highly modded car can when trying its hardest to burnout the shiftlight globe be it a 4, 6, 8 or rotary!
Wait, now this is really a tough one.
I know I know, easter eggs comes up trumps right? Well luckily thousands of (in)sane people thought otherwise and attended Easternats 2007.
Guys & gals in their modded cars itching to turn the tyres only to have the crowd spur them on and push their beloved machines to the limit. That is Easternats!
Burnouts
It’s amazing to see cars just getting tougher and tougher at each burnout event. There were was only a very very small handful of cars that didn’t bust out a big burnout, usually there are a good number of cars that just don’t cut it in the burnout stakes. This year however it was tyre popping burnout after tyre popping burnout - makes you feel a little sorry for the judges, must have been an absolute nightmare trying to weed out the top 50 burnout cars.
Naturally there were some stand out cars in the burnouts, ie the orange race prepped mustang pictured above. What is it about raced prepped muscle cars that makes them look so horny? Both ford and holden fans can appreciate a car decked out like that!
Crowd Favourites :
First came the Holden flag which was met with as many chees as boos.
Then we had the Ford flag which followed suit with both boogin and cheering.
Lastly was the aussie flag which was met with a united cheer from the crowd!
As with all Easternats, the seemingly magnetic rail took its toll. One of the first to come to blows with the rail was the orange capri pictured above, which amazingly was all fixed up looking like new the following day!

Drag Racing
Drags were held at Easternats as an untimed event and first to cross the line moved to the next round. A truckload of seroiusly quick cars entered (drag build cars) along with a variety of quick streeters.

Go To Whoa
As with the drags, everyone was able to enter the Go To Whoa, which for the most part turned out to be a bit of a powerskid (read if you wanted to clean up and take it seriously then you probably could have with a VW).
Showcars
It was actually a difficult task to catch the showcars when they were still at Easternats as most owners were cruising the track at every possible moment. That being said there were a number of seriously HIGH quality cars on display. The monaro pictured above was straight as they come and the paint looked like you could just dip your hand in it.

There’s definitely something to be said about events that cater to all manner of engine / car.
Just wanted to comment on some bad press that Easternats received over the weekend. Jon Davison(event promotor/organiser) did touch on it a little during the burnout finals but I wanted to add my 2 cents worth too.
Apparently a car caught fire at the end of pit straight and before the fire crew got there the car was more or less destroyed (I don’t know exact details). Anyway as much as I feel for this guy, comments with regards to Easternats being poorly run are way out of line IMO. Since its inception, Easternats has been one of the top events of its kind. Huge crowds and huge numbers of entrants attest to this fact. Anyways, kudos to Jon for organising another fantastic Easter Weekend.
cheers,
