We covered 3,000 k’s in four days to get up close and personal at Gazza Nationals 2007 and it was definitely well worth it. Although I have to say that the roads weren’t anywhere near as smooth as the ones we enjoy here in NSW and the Victorian coppers weren’t to friendly either.
Gazza Nationals 2007 was a weekend affair attended by what seemed like half of Adelaide. Spectator numbers were big all weekend, showing that the Myers name still has massive pulling power.
The Crossroads team had their cars ready to fry some tyres and set fire to their cars for the spectators
Big Leroy aka LOC ‘Loud Obnoxious C***’ (as he calls himself) took out the blown burnout category and it was well deserved too. Mashing his tyres to pieces to the tune of a blown V8 singing away.
Heaps of big blown V8s were on display on the burnout pad Gary Myers with GM 176, George Separovich with his Blown 68 Monaro, UPON2, Sir08 to name a few.
Congrats to both James and Helen North who steered their newly painted oranghe Hatch to victory for both Iron Maiden(top female burnout) and 1st in the Naturally Aspirated class in burnouts!
One of the more interesting cars at Gazza Nationals would have to have been the VZ ute with a blown V8 in the tray. This thing is built for wheel standing and apparently this is a pretty popular sport in the States at present. The aim of the game is to cross the 1/4 mile as quick as you can on rear tyres, with alot of the US cars getting 8second 1/4 mile times. Check the Video of this wheel standing monster.
When the ute is up on the back wheels the driver steers through the use of two axle brakes on the rear tyres and sees by looking out under the bonnet. Looks like a hell of a ride and can guarantee that there isn’t a force strong enough to get me to try this out - would you?
Gazza Nationals wasn’t just about burnouts, there were heaps of driving events all weekend long which entrants enjoyed, cruising, dash for cash, go to whoa and powerskids.
Congrats to Gary and Deby Myers for putting on a great event, look forward to attending next year too!
