Murray Bridge Autofest 2007

Brett Stevens pictured above unleashing 2000 ponies on his poor treads!
This was the first event ever held at Murray Bridge and well the numbers speak for themselves really.
- 201 entrants
- 15,000 spectators over the weekend
That is an awesome figure and I can only see it going up in the future, everyone had a fantastic time, spectators had plenty of action all weekend to watch. Drivers got in HEAPS of hooligan time in their cars. Having the cruise go through the middle of the burnout pad meant that drivers could light up the tyres without getting hassled by security or worrying about spectators getting in the way.
Burnouts
The first thing you notice upon entering Sturt Reserve is the gargantuan burnout pad. Les Adams told me with a wry grin that it’s the biggest burnout pad in Australia and I don’t doubt it for a second. The pad is HUGE! At a guestimate i’d say it’d be 100m by at least 10m. It’s almost so big that tyre manufacturers need to figure out a way of getting more rubber into the tyre so competitors can traverse the entire pad without popping the tyres too soon

Go To Whoa
Some seriously impressive times put down by a number of cars, but my personal favourite was the 600hp Toyota Cressida. I mean check the image above, this thing could develop massive smoke off the line or pull like a crazed freight train. It’s a phenomenal performer and didn’t miss a beat all weekend, not even after being tormented countless times over the weekend. Which is why this crazy little cressida was so deserving of its win in the go to whoa.
I should also not that the ‘A STORM’ ute above had the go to whoa nailed all day on Sunday right up until the last few minutes, his times were so consistent too (brilliant driving!). Also the twin turbo ls1 (pictured below) was chomping on the heels of ‘A STORM’ all day too.

Show Cars
Not to be outdone by all the action on the track were the fastidiously presented show cars. Take the monaro pictured above, it was more immaculate than the day it rolled out of the GM factory all those years ago.
Then there were monsters like the sandman van above powered by a bohemeath 502cu chev!
Overall, i’ve gotta say Les Adams and his crew did a brilliant job, congrats on a great event and can’t wait too be there next year ( next years details will be located here )
