It was looking as though Powercruise 12 might have to be called off due to rain early on in the week in Sydney. However the skies opened up and the sun beamed down to provide perfect weather for the entire weekend that would be Powercruise 12.
The largest Powercruise to date with 913 entrants in total, cars had to be turned away as there just wasn’t enough room to cram more in. Makes you think that next year is only going to get bigger, perhaps WSID and Eastern Creek could be used in 2009.
Friday saw a number of cars come off the track and hit the wall during cruise sessions. For the most part it seemed to be people driving above and beyond their abilities. The purpose built jeep drag car (pictured above) hit the wall and rolled over a number of times.
Powerskids
A new World Record for Powerskids was set on Sunday afternoon with Trent Smith (yellow torana pictured above) smoking his tyres to 557metres! Gup managed to smoke his tyres for 510m before his bonnet lifted and he ran out of tarmac.
Tony DeOliveria (YLDTOY) may not have won the powerskid however you have to give him a big thumbs up for trying. Tony covered well over 400m in his powerskid before losing control of his blown bigblock corolla and side swiping a water barrier at over 200k’s. Luckily he was unhurt and 20 minutes later was found competing in the Off Street Drags.
HB Torana pictured above ‘GOTNFN’ had perfection written all over it. Every nut and bolt had its place, look forward to seeing what times this is able to achieve at WSID.

Off Street Drags
The off street drags were taken out by the Trick and Mansweto drag Capri. IMA400 (pictured above) coming in a very close second – big congrats goes out to Chris Attard for taking on Goliath and not getting clobbered!
The rules for off street racing were Entrants had to use street slick(groved slicks), no warm up burnouts and a rolling start.

Cruising
As always cruising is one of the biggest parts of Powercruise, however with the huge number of entrants meant that those without a carport or garage were lined up for hours on end. We lined up for 2.5hours on Friday, went for a 10 minute cruise then parked up for the rest of the weekend to get joyrides in other cars.
All in all, a great weekend was had by all, was a pity to see cars coming off the track. But at the same time if they had adhered to the rules set in place then their pride and joy would still be in one piece. Bring on powercruise Darwin!
There was talk of holding two Powercruise events in Sydney per year, however Gup has confirmed that this will not be happening as Eastern Creek is booked solid as it stands.
