Revfest 2006
Ever had to pick out steel radials from your undies? That’s exactly what I was doing this weekend past!
Standing metres away from big fat blown 8’s shredding their tyres, spitting out blobs of burning rubber and steel radials, all the while screaming at you with their exhausts is both terrifying and exhilirating.
You really have to hand it to these burnout guys & gals, they seem to be able to see in the thickest smoke. Steering their cars through plumes of eye watering smoke without hitting the barracades surrounding the burnout pad.
Revfest 2006 has been and gone, a fantastic weekend of big fat blown eights, bent sixes and the odd four banger. Wagga wagga really knows how to put on a great show, the main street was lined with literally 100’s of hot modified cars all weekend.
Super 7’s
Whilst personally, i’ve attended numerous burnout competitions, i’ve never come across the ‘Super 7’s’. The aim of the game here is to complete 7 full donuts in the shortest possible time. Most seemed to be out there to make as much noise and smoke as possible but there were a number who wanted to snare themselves the trophy.
Local car ‘vanman’ a twin blown panelvan tagged the wall during the super 7 comp, but that didn’t stop him from putting on a great show.
The outright winner was a 351 powered beige sigma with a time in the region of 25.5 seconds!
Burnouts (the main event)

When it comes to thrashing V8’s, what better way than to torture the entire drive train, tyres and driver than burnouts. Burnout qualifying starting late on Saturday afternoon, continuing on well into the night. Over 100 cars entered qualifying with only 25 set to make it through to the finals on Sunday, so competition was intense. Qualifiers were given a minute to strut their burnout prowess. Not many were able to pop their tyres in the time given, but they sure as hell tried their hardest to do so.
Decibels and smoke seemed to be the main objective and there was plenty of both. A blown v8 on full song is the sweetest of symphonys you could ever hear. With the likes of ‘yummy’ a big bad blown wb ute that tears both the tarmac and tyres to pieces, all the while belching flames from it’s gaping exhausts and attempting to deafen the crowd.
As with Revfest Burnout Party 2006, the Forza boys put on a brilliant show with their blown HR sedan and VS ute. Both cars popped numerous over the weekend and screamed their guts out!

On the way down to Wagga Wagga, we spotted a hot looking XD(pictured above) on the horizon, it sat on the road beautifully and when we caught up to it, we weren’t disappointed. Motoring along with a nice rumble, sitting on B45 Simmons with super straight body and perfect paint!
There was a large array of different cars on display, most noteable would have to been Aaron Fitzpatrick’s Datsun 1600. You’ll remember this car for winning Summernats Grandchampion this year. Aaron and his oldman picked up 10 trophies between them for the weekend.
One of my personal favourites is without doubt the blown VK commodore. Big fat 6/71 blower poking out of the bonnet, thick black paint combined with huge deep dish rims, made for a very tough looking ride. I’m not 100% certain, but to me it looked as though it started life out as an original Brock Commodore (anyone care to enlighten us on this?).

Smash Up Derbys

Whilst initially thinking that the smash up derby would be a pretty uninteresting thing to watch, seeing all these delapidated cars out on the track brought a grin to everyones face. Set out in a circle, all facing away from the centre, armed with 5 litres of fuel.
It was action a plenty, cars flying through the dust only tohit their target and move onto the next. Huge roars from the crowd as another huge hit was laid down.
The winner turned out to be a blown orang HQ (pictured below)
Although, I suspect that most if not all the guys thought they were winners too, everyone had a smile on their face and surprisingly alot of the cars were driveable after the derby. A mate said to me ‘I never knew cars could drive with this much damage’.
