What a weekend, engines bursting into flames, tyres going BANG and plenty willing to smash their rev limiters into pieces.
I was also really pleased to see the girls getting out on the track with their modded cars and thrashing them too. They weren’t driving riced up buzz boxes either, big fat camaros, modded vls (both 8’s and 6’s) and no offence guys but they’re far better to watch out on the track!
Burnouts
Picture it, 35 degree heat, not a tree in site and a long line of cars waiting to boil their coolant to the point that gaskets go bang and engines go clunkety clunk. All the while generating massive plumes of smoke, popping tyres and spitting flames out both ends of the car.
The awesome blown Dodge ratrod was there and it put on quite the show (if anyone knows the owners name, please let me know)
First there was smoke:
Then there was a bang:
Then there were FLAMES
Apparently a gasket blew and all was fixed and ready to go for Sundays finals! There was plenty more carnage on the burnout pad, bent axles, broken diffes and more firey engines were to be seen too.
Vantsy won the burnout comp - congrats and I still can’t get over how someone could destroy such a beautiful paint job, but am so glad they do!
Scarlett had his infamous blown HZ out and was billowing out mountains of blue smoke. No he wasn’t burning oil, he had some tyres specially made to churn out a whole lotta blue.
Again, it was great to see the girls getting in on the action and giving the guys a run for their money in both Go to whoa and Spear a spud
The above willys came to grief but no damage was done. If ever there were a driver and car suited to one another, the red willys was it. The car was immaculate and the driver looked like he’d just stepped out of the 50’s absolutely perfect match!
Demo Burnouts
Brett Stevens in his blown ford ute and Peter Grey in his blown Camaro put on an awesome burnout display on the skid pan. The thunderous roar of Brett Stevens’ ute was ear drum bursting!
I’d absolutely love to see some burnout comps being held on pads the size of the skidpan at Springnats. The speed generated and the ensuing donuts is awesome to watch. I can see how there would be a danger aspect, especially for some of the drivers, but the more experienced would have a chance to really set the pad on fire!
All in all, it was a fantastic organisation and the level of organisation is an absolute credit to Les Adams, the man who promotes and organises this event. Congrats of a brilliant event Les, look forward to Albury Fest In January.
