Sydney Muscle Car Cruise 10/8/07
In light of all the bad press for ’street machiners’ lately Dave Murphy(owner of the capri pictured above) has been organising a Muscle Car Cruise once every three months, with this being the second Muscle Car Cruise to date. The aim of this cruise is to put a wide divide between that of the street racers on tv and real ’street machiners’ and to also raise money for charity (The Adolph Basser Cardiac Institute at the Westmead Childrens Hospital).
A total of $1900 was raised on the night with $1400 of that raised by the owners and another $250 donated by both CJ Murphy Tree Recycling and Pro Street Metalcraft.
Everyone was well behaved and there was an undercover officer amongst the cruise (which everyone was made aware of) and no defects or tickets were issued to any of the drivers. All cars were issued with a sticker to put on their windscreen so the police knew who was involved with the cruise.
The quality of cars would and could put alot of big shows to shame, from blown sedans (below) to original GTHO’s, Monaros, rods, basically you name a top Aussie or American muscle car and it was most likely there.
The cruise began at Rouse Hill Bus Transit carpark (cnr of Samantha Riley Drive and Old Windsor Rd) and worked its way to Harry’s Cafe de Wheels in Liverpool. All in all ~220 cars were involved in the cruise and this was all started by a few text messages and word of mouth.
Big thanks to Shaun (cycov8) for taking us in his Cortina on the cruise, had an absolutely fantastic night and can’t wait for the next one! Also big kudos to Dave Murphy for putting together a brilliant night and lastly thanks to the Police for enabling the cruise to happen without any hiccups.
