Toyo Drift Australia Round 3 Eastern Creek 30th August
This is the first official drift event i’ve attended and was really looking forward to seeing a whole lot of drifting action! Actually I was more interested in checking out the battles as for a recent drift convert, it’s something that i’ve never understood. ie how are point awarded, how can you battle whilst sideways etc etc…
Anyways, it was the perfect day (unlike the rain from eastern creek 2 weeks previously) with plenty of cars on and off the track. I was actually surprised at how small the crowds were!
Anyways onto the drifting :
Track Setup
The event was held at ‘devils elbow’ on the Eastern Creek circuit and basically it’s a small dogleg that leads into a huge left handed hair pin that leads onto the front straight.
The setup of the track bothered me at first as I was thinking that it would have been the full circuit, but then that would have made judging an impossible task :(.
Anyways there were plenty of big $ sponsored cars out on the track all day and the speed these guys enter corners is insane! At a guess, i’d say they were hitting the first corner at 80 to 100clicks sideways and exiting onto the front straight doing upwards of 100clicks easily!
What was even more impressive was seeing the smaller guys really putting it to the sponsored cars such as the car below (Josh Young - I think that’s the drivers name?)

Josh actually won the D2 category for privateer guys - so hands together for a brilliant effort Josh and thanks for again providing awesome entertainment with your mad driving skills!
Drift Battles

As I said before, I was really keen on finding out how the drift battles worked. From what I picked up on Sunday, two cars go into a ‘race’ at a time. The idea being that each car wants to keep a good angle on the car and attempt to overtake the car they are battling with. I’m not 100% up with the rules, but that seems to be the basic concept of it.
Babe

There were some hot promo chics at Eastern Creek, but i’m afraid to say that I didn’t manage to get many pics of them
I was more interested in the action on the track. Next time i’ll be sure to zoom in on more of the chiccys.
